About Edwin Trautman

Edwin D. Trautman, Ph.D. , received his B.S, M.S., and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Biomedical Engineering) from MIT. He has enjoyed working at the edge in emerging areas of healthcare, life sciences and technology for more than four decades, serving on the staff at Massachusetts General Hospital and on the faculties of Harvard Medical School and MIT before growing several small businesses and leading healthcare technology groups at large life-sciences companies. In the 1990s Ed led development of the first commercial electronic medical-record system at Cerner and of an internet-based pharmacy benefit management at CareInsite (now WebMD), and in the early 2000s extended Harvard’s evidence-based risk management and patient safety tools and services to many national healthcare systems as president of RMF Strategies. At Correlagen Diagnostics Ed helped develop early next-generation DNA sequencing for clinical diagnostic testing, including spearheading the NIH ClinVar database for variant pathogenicity. Correlagen was acquired by LabCorp, where he served as Vice President of Bioinformatics and Healthcare Innovation leading development of next-generation DNA diagnostics and reporting. More recently Ed served as Vice President of Science and Clinical Analytics and Informatics at Pfizer focusing on digitizing drug discovery and development as part of the company’s bold move into a digital future. Ed is an avid aviator and flight instructor. He is a volunteer pilot with Angel Flight Northeast and serves on the industry advisory board of the Gordon-MIT Engineering Leadership Program. Ed lives with his wife Mary in Newport RI when not traveling across the US to visit their six grandchildren.
