Graham Shimmield Residence Hall

Residence Hall building from the outside

For more information or to book a stay, please email reservations@bigelow.org.

The Graham Shimmield Residence Hall overlooks the Damariscotta River and is located just a short walk from our laboratory. The 15,000-square-foot facility was opened in 2017, funded by a grant from the Harold Alfond Foundation and a matching gift from an anonymous donor.

Shimmield Hall provides beautiful, practical, and eco-friendly housing to program participants, students, and visiting scientists. and offers both dormitory rooms and apartments. Its modern design blurs the lines between outdoor and indoor space, embodying energy efficiency, ease of maintenance, and respect for the surrounding natural beauty. A 264-panel solar array on campus generates more than enough energy to power, heat, and cool the building.
