Research Interests

I am fascinated by the intricate web of microbial metabolisms and adaptations in extremophilic organisms. My current work uses single-cell genomic approaches to investigate biogeochemical cycling of active subsurface microbes inhabiting the Lost City hydrothermal vent field. The deep biosphere provides numerous unexplored habitats and could host a significant portion of biomass on Earth. By investigating the mechanisms driving extreme biology in such ecosystems on Earth, I hope to inform future astrobiological missions to other planetary bodies like Europa.
